Value #6: We seek efficiency in all operations and use of technology

By guest writer: LCSNW IT Director Eric Ryan

Automatically headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and adaptive cruise control are just a few of the notable operational innovations developed by car manufacturers over the past 10 years. They highlight the regular, repeatable actions that have been automated to provide a more efficient, enjoyable experience for the driver.

Blind-spot indicator, side-impact airbag, and automatic braking assist represent safety and security innovations these same manufacturers have developed during this same time period. Rather than providing efficiency, these improvements enhance the security you feel while operating a vehicle.

These are the kinds of streamlined, technology-enabled efficiencies I think of when I think of Value #6. Imagine if our computers knew us and knew what we have to do in our daily work. Imagine being able to securely use one set of login credentials across all your systems and applications, while maintaining the highest level of security and compliance. No more post-it notes stuck on your monitor with all your passwords! And what if part of onboarding didn't just include a standardized set of hardware (computer, monitors, headset, and camera), but also provided a customized set of software tools and applications you need to do your specific job? That would really change the way we work and how we get things done!

The potential for technology to help positively transform every employee's work experience simply cannot be understated. We're actively moving LCSNW in the direction. For example, we've already put efficiencies in place--little things you may not even notice, like smart WiFi that automatically connects your computer to the internet, no matter what LCSNW office you're in, or deploying commonly used applications to mobile devices when you enroll your phone. And we're investing in productivity tools that will help you accomplish tasks now. In the future, those same tools will also help us to understand and use data better, focus on what matters most, and make it easy to find, command, navigate, and discover items across our network.

Technology--it empowers ust o achieve more!
